Dilution Calculator

Calculate how much water to add when diluting cleaning products, garden feed, pool chemicals, or lab solutions using the C1V1 = C2V2 formula.

Formula

C1 × V1 = C2 × V2

What is the dilution formula?

The dilution formula is C1 × V1 = C2 × V2, where C1 is the stock concentration, V1 is the stock volume, C2 is the desired concentration, and V2 is the final volume. This works because the amount of solute stays the same before and after dilution.

How do I dilute a cleaning product?

Check the product label for the recommended dilution ratio (e.g. 1:10 means 10% concentration). Enter the stock concentration (usually 100% for neat product), the amount you have, and your target concentration. The calculator shows how much water to add.

What is a 1:10 dilution?

A 1:10 dilution means 1 part concentrate to 10 parts total solution. That gives a 10% concentration. For example, 10 ml of concentrate topped up to 100 ml total with water.
